Expert Interviews with Representatives of Elite – Possibilities and Limitations in Research on Minority Groups

This article aims to explain what expert interviews are and show the potential of this type of research procedure. I focus on the use of expert interviews in research on minority groups. My considerations are based on research conducted with representatives of religious elites
in the Jewish community in Poland. The accumulated expert knowledge has allowed me to compare the resources of literature on bringing up children with social practice. This has made it possible to reconstruct the components and forms of transmission of cultural heritage in a Jewish family based on Jerzy Nikitorowicz’s diagram. Nine interviews with rabbis and rabbis’ wives constitute the basis for considering the possibilities and potential limitations of expert interviews. Having analysed both aspects, I can recommend using this method in many qualitative research projects.
