Beyond Consequentialist Ethics
Intentional Action and the Virtuous Citizen in the Age of AI

Este estudio examina cómo canalizar el potencial de la inteligencia artificial (IA) hacia el bien común, enfatizando la responsabilidad ética de quienes la programan, regulan y utilizan. Asumiendo una perspectiva clásica aristotélico-tomista, nuestro artículo argumenta que, careciendo de inteligencia y voluntad en el sentido filosófico, la IA no puede ser un agente moral ni responsable de sus acciones. En respuesta a este desafío, se analizan dos propuestas éticas como candidatas para la ética requerida en un mundo basado en la IA: el consecuencialismo y la ética de la postura intencional. Descartamos el consecuencialismo debido a su insuficiencia para tal tarea y optamos en cambio por una ética de la acción intencional, inspirada en la obra de Martin Rhonheimer. Nuestra investigación concluye que, para vivir bien en una sociedad basada en la IA, diseñar sistemas técnicamente éticos, en el espíritu del consecuencialismo, no es suficiente; más bien, es esencial cultivar ciudadanos que, como usuarios de la IA, estén dotados de virtudes y, ante todo, de la virtud de la prudencia.
