Abstract


The work presents educational paths of the generation of Urszula Ledóchowska, and education of Urszula herself. Since the period of education, especially its institutional part, of the Saint fell upon times of partitions of Poland, the work presents educational opportunities for women throughout three partitions. For Urszula the period covered the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

The article presents the complex nature of the political, social and educational situation in which saint Urszula Ledóchowska lived. It shows how she and her generation acquired knowledge and developed intellectually. This development was mainly directed at regaining freedom of Poland. It was that generation of Polish women who, through education, helped intellectually regain freedom, which in turn induced the state to fight for and recover independence.
