The Future of Life—On Existence and Love of Life

The author shows that love of life is the foundation of its meaning and the condition for a genuine future. Modern humanity increasingly fails to live life to its fullness – it functions mechanically, possesses material goods, yet loses the capacity for wonder, gratitude, and hope. Love of life is not merely an emotion but a mode of existence – a way of participating in the world, in relationships with others, with nature, and with God. The author contrasts biophilic attitudes, open to life and its mystery, with necromaniac ones, fascinated by death and destruction, which lead to emptiness and stagnation. The true future of life unfolds in two dimensions: the symbolic and cultural – rooted in memory, works, and gestures that transcend individual privacy – and the spiritual and transcendent, which allows participation in something greater than the time of a single life, in the experience of immortality, consciousness, and the eternal flow of life. The future of life does not lie in technology, in control over fate, or in projects of perfection, but in the capacity to love life, to participate in the world, and to remain open to a meaning greater than ourselves.
