Christ as the Argument for a Living Hope

The article refers to the motto of classical apologetics inherited by fundamental theology (i.e., 1 Peter 3:15). It shows that regardless of the value of the traditional reading of the call to apologia, the apologetic significance of the figure of Jesus himself appearing in the Christian kerygma should be more appreciated. The kerygmatic image of Jesus, being an expression of the culminative moment of Revelation, also has the power to move human sensibilities, emanating credibility. The considerations contained in the article are based on Blaise Pascal's intuitions regarding the “reasons of the heart” (interpreted in light of the biblical understanding of the heart), and on the findings of René Latourelle regarding the object of interest in fundamental theology. An in-depth exegesis of the 1 Peter 3:15 passage by Elena Bosetti was also used.
