The Meaning of Suffering in the Face of Hope

The experience of suffering is a serious test of hope and trust in God. The human desire to avoid suffering is natural; however, the experience of those who suffer clearly demonstrates that this is not always possible. The subject of the analysis undertaken in this article is whether suffering has a deeper meaning. The article aims to offer an account of the meaning of suffering that can be found in the face of the hope brought to the Church at the threshold of the Jubilee Year 2025. Although some people believe that much, if not all, is already known about suffering, the author points to suffering, which appears as the secret of human existence and remains so. For centuries, man has been searching for the answer to the question of whether the mystery of suffering itself has any meaning in human life. The author of the article starts with the current thought on the meaning of suffering and then proceeds to demonstrate the spiritual meaning of suffering, which leads man to Christian hope.
