The very formulation of the article’s title and the setting of the research problem stem from the author’s interdisciplinary research interests in the fields of spirituality theology and psychology as well as from the practice undertaken back in his student years, when he noticed the inadequacy of psychological methods in healing and treating personal wounds. Attempting to discover the reasons for this inadequacy, the author noted that the mainstream of modern psychotherapy manifests a strong interest in spirituality, albeit, admittedly, not necessarily in the Christian dimension. The article is broad and open-ended in its structure, only touching briefly upon the above issues due to the limited length of the text. The author attempts to outline the problem in question in a synthetic manner, relying on professional literature and refraining from offering ready-made solutions, instead proposing certain ways out of the crisis.
The article comprises 13 sections. In the first section, the author provides a synthetic explanation of the terms used in the article. The next section, mainly based on present-day psychological knowledge, outlines the current understanding of personality disorders. Section three offers an overview of the types of personality disorders, followed by a list of the corresponding causes in section four. Since the article also considers personality disorders at the spiritual level, in section five, the author discusses examples of such disorders that are known from reading the Bible. The chart provided in section six shows the spheres of healing, and the next section enumerates the factors that support the treatment of personality disorders. The sections that follow point first to the different stages of the healing process, and then to the conditions for healing and the essence of soul healing. The concluding sections explain what the processes of healing and curing and of healing and forgiveness are about, and the final section briefly mentions the questions of the essence of forgiveness and the essence of reconciliation.
