Applying the European Union public aid law to sport is a very complicated matter. This issue also has a great socio-economic meaning. Improper interpretation of the European Union legal standards may undermine the state efforts to promote sport activity. The author researches the relevant European Commission decisions, its theoretical papers, the EU case law and academics` ideas. It is emphasized in the article that there is a necessity to base upon careful economic analyses while applying the EU public aid law to investment in sport infrastructure.
