Prophesizing for kings and emperors: Apollo of Didyma and the epigraphic culture of Miletos

Ten artykuł poświęcony jest wyroczni Apollona w Didymie w czasach hellenistycznych i rzymskich, gdy znajdowała się ona pod władzą Miletu. Źródła literackie poświadczają wyrocznie dla Aleksandra, Seleukosa I, Nikomedesa II, Dioklecjana i Licyniusza, inskrypcje wskazują na wyrocznie dla innych Seleukidów. Przypuszczalnie wydano też wyrocznie dla Augusta, Trajana i Juliana Apostaty. Występuje silna korelacja między tymi wyroczniami a okresami aktywności Miletu poświadczonymi przez krzywą epigraficzną. Niejednokrotnie wyrocznia prowadziła do zysków materialnych i politycznych Miletu, a prorokowanie dla królów i cesarzy przyczyniało się do budowania prestiżu Miletu.
