An article presents development of historical education led in different institutions in Poland between inter-war period and modern times. The authors pointed benefits and difficulties deriving from leading history lessons at school and beyond. Discussion on this topic was led by history’s didacticians, museum and archive educators. In recent years the educational offer of museums and archives has enriched, as well as methods of students’ teaching. Wide offer of these institutions is treated sometimes as competition for school education, and educators are treated as competitors for school teachers. Authors point benefits resulting from cooperation between teachers and other educational institutions’ educators. They point common projects and programs. Currently museum and archive should not be treated as machines passing ready knowledge, but they should be treated as a point of contact between the present and the past, as a place of independent experience, creation and knowledge construction. This new methodological attitude enables cooperation between school, museum and archive, and creation of common educational projects.Downloads
