“Domestic Church”—A Family Involved in the Life of the Parish Community: A Study Based on Research Conducted in the Archdiocese of Katowice

A theology of the family as the “domestic Church” was fully developed in the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. However, the question arises whether this is how contemporary Christian families see themselves and are perceived in the parish community. Are they aware of their mission and properly prepared to undertake it? The purpose of the paper is to present the results of empirical research conducted among spouses and priests of the Archdiocese of Katowice in 2020–2021. The analysis of the results of the research, juxtaposed with the catechetical and pastoral premises, became the basis for the development of the document Pastoral Care (of Families) of the Archdiocese of Katowice: Strategic Plan for 2021–2025. Its pilot application has begun in selected parishes, aiming to revitalize family participation in the life of parish communities.
