theology, celebration of SundayAbstract
According to John Paul II, Sunday is “the very center of the mystery of time”, it is “a summary of the whole Christian faith”. Moreover, it is also an exceptional manifestation of belonging to the Church and has its special significance in culture and world calendar (except for some denominational calendars).
The article presents Sunday as a microcosm of salvation, its religious meaning, i.e. it analyses its theology in accordance with the Apostolic Letter Dies Domini of John Paul II of May 11, 1998. Therefore, we recognize Sunday as the Creator’s day (“Christian Sabbath”), as the day of Christ (the day of the Lord’s resurrection), as the day of the Church (the center of the Church’s life), as the day of man (the day of joy, rest, community), and finally as the eighth day (the prefiguration of Second Coming). The text ends with pastoral postulates.
