In the paper, some cultural and theological aspects of the camel in the Arab and Islamic world are discussed. Important role of this animal in the nomadic life and survival in the desert was emphasized, as well as its value and impact on some historical events. Moreover, Qur‘ānic passages concerning a camel were discussed, as well as quotations from Muhammed’s speeches found in Hadith. Unlike the cultural positive attitude, theological questions appear to be contradictory: on the one hand, camel is presented as a perfect creature, but on the other hand, it is a source of ritual impurity and even a demonic habitat.
