The Second Vatican Council and the fall of communism in 1989 inspired a significant increase of the theological studies for lay persons in Poland. At present, they are a majority among about 33,000 teachers of religion, even if the interest for these studies has decreased recently. They could take various tasks in the Church as lay ecclesial ministers. A reflection on their vocation and spirituality is still needed, as well as an improvement of their education and formation. This vocation is still something new.
