Religiosity of Supporters and Opponents of the Global Warming Concept

Abstract

In its theoretical part, the article presents considerations on the teaching of the Church regarding climate change (the theological norm). Religiosity was measured with the Polish version of the Centrality of Religiosity Scale. The intensity of the attitude towards global warming was measured with a questionnaire prepared by the present author – Global Warming Scale. The study group consisted of 152 people: 72 males and 80 females. Statistical analysis reveals the increase of the intensity of religiosity among the opponents of global warming in the whole study group, but also among (i) males, (ii) females, (iii) younger participants and (iv) older participants. The key pastoral conclusion is that religiosity should be approached in a way that stresses both faith and reason rather than faith and emotions.
