Ordination and Ministries in the Eastern Churches Compared with Roman Catholic Practice

The issues addressed in this study revolve around the question of ordination and ministries in the traditions of the Christian Orient. The first two sections of the article present their classification and explain differences in terminology between the Eastern Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. The last two sections discuss the main lines of development of ordination rites and ministries in the East and in the West, identifying similarities and differences in the structure of their celebration—especially with regard to their essential core, that is, the imposition of hands combined with prayer.
