The design and execution of the baptismal font are linked to the 900th anniversary of the baptism of Western Pomerania and serve to commemorate the Christianizing missions of St. Otto, Bishop of Bamberg in 1124–1125 and 1128. This study concerns the baptistery itself, its placement within the liturgical space, its form and iconography as inspired by theology and history, and its theological hermeneutics. The historical iconography commemorates the fathers of the baptism, that is, St. Otto and the two rulers: Boleslaw III Wrymouth and Wartislaw I. The combination of theological and historical content makes the font and its message both a catechesis of sorts and a lesson in history and culture. The research project titled “The Baptistery Commemorating the 900th Anniversary of the Baptism of Pomerania” was approved by the Ministry of Education and Science and was included in the research and educational project titled “The Baptism of Pomerania in the History of Poland and Europe: The 900th Anniversary Jubilee.”
