Angelo Scola, John Paul II, theology of the body, theology of marriage and family, Amoris LaetitiaAbstract
Angelo Scola points to the significant influence of Karol Wojtyła’s earlier philosophical and literary works on papal teaching. The cardinal also uses the Theology of the Body to interpret the recent synods on the family. At the same time, he points out that the contemporary magisterium should be interpreted in view of the continuity of teaching. For the theology of marriage and the family, it is important that the ideal presented by John Paul II should be translated into the language of pastoral practice. According to Scola, this cannot be accomplished without a renewal of the integral vision of the sacraments and without an integral deepening of the theology of the sacrament of matrimony. Only such a vision can be properly translated into the language of legal and moral requirements.
