Abstract

Niniejszy numer kwartalnika Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu „Teologia i Człowiek” otwiera tekst ks. Kazimierza Gintera ukazujący ciekawy przykład wpływu starożytnego, pogańskiego autora Flawiusza Filostratosa na opis cesarza Marcjana – cesarza soboru chalcedońskiego i symbolu katolickiej ortodoksji – zawarty w Historii kościelnej Ewagriusza Scholastyka, antiocheńskiego autora chrześcijańskiego z końca VI wieku. Artykuł ks. Kazimierza Gintera przełamuje nasze stereotypy myślowe dotyczące pierwszych wieków chrześcijaństwa, które – wchodząc w świat antyczny – pomimo nieuchronnego i oczywistego konfliktu z pogaństwem, niejednokrotnie prowadziło z nim dialog i przejmowało na swój użytek filozoficzne, czy też polityczne idee i kategorie.
