Truth as the Axiological Determinant of John Paul II’s Canon Law Reforms Protecting Minors

The prevention of sexual abuse of minors in any community involves the creation of norms and the application of applicable regulations. The disclosure of abuses in the Church coincided with the pontificate of John Paul II, who began a long process of renewal. An important and necessary component of that process was a reform of canon law. The canonical norm is formed by the reason of the legislator, enlightened by faith and striving for specific values. In addition, it must be stated that the reason of the ecclesiastical legislator cannot be indifferent to the values resulting from the Gospel. The article answers the question of what axiological determinant shaped John Paul II as the supreme legislator and how it has influenced reforms in the area of the protection of minors.
