The aim of this article is to discuss the forthcoming changes in the management structures of Caritas in Poland and Germany and, at the same time, to explain the context of the day-to-day conduct of pastoral and theological diakonia. Drawing on the authors’ reflections on the historical events of the twentieth century, the article presents the results of empirical studies on the importance of charitable engagement in pastoral ministry and work at newly established pastoral units within Caritas. It is worth considering how new leadership models can be developed today within Caritas, inspired by the experience of the synodal processes.
