Certeza razonable en ciencia y filosofía

Se argumenta que, como formas de conocimiento, ni la ciencia es tan segura, ni la filosofía es tan arbitraria como a menudo se pretende. La ciencia experimental y las matemáticas se fundamentan en postulados que deben ser aceptados de forma axiomática sin que puedan justificarse con el rigor que posteriormente se espera de ambas disciplinas. Esa aceptación conlleva la asunción consciente o inconsciente de opciones filosóficas concretas. Lo mismo puede decirse de otros enunciados que gozan de un consenso tan amplio que su carácter filosófico queda eclipsado. Se discute aquí el estatus ontológico de ejemplos concretos de afirmaciones ampliamente aceptadas. Se concluye que, en la aventura de la vida, el elusivo mito del conocimiento seguro debe ser sustituido por la tangible prosa de la certeza razonable. Se propone que la necesaria y exitosa apuesta vital por certezas razonables que ya son objeto de un amplio consenso puede extenderse a otros ámbitos filosóficos hasta ahora percibidos por algunos como dominio de lo arbitrario.
