Se examinará una división tripartita del tiempo: el tiempo cosmológico, el científico y el que se alcanza en la comprensión más radical de la libertad. Estos tres tiempos se corresponden con tres futuros diferentes que se refieren al futuro del universo, al futuro de la producción de la vida humana a través de la técnica y de la historia y al futuro que es el tiempo propio del ser personal. Esta descripción nos permitirá describir tres modos diferentes de la acción humana que se corresponden a los diferentes niveles de la libertad. El objetivo es disponer de un marco que nos permita comprender los diferentes futuros y jerarquizar su consideración acerca del fin de la persona humana.
