The Dynamic Theodicy Model: Understanding God, Evil and Evolution

This Special Issue aims to address one of the most intricate questions within the field of theodicy: the reconciliation of God's existence with the prevalence of pain and suffering in the evolutionary journey of life and humanity. How can we justify divine attributes like omniscience, omnipotence, and moral perfection in the context of the suffering and mortality of living beings?

We welcome scholarly contributions aimed at reevaluating the intricate interconnections among core concepts like evolution, nature, suffering, pain, values, evil, and goodness. The Dynamic Theodicy Model strives to reveal fresh viewpoints in theodicy that are informed by scientific insights, with the aim of broadening our understanding when considering the intersections of nature, evolution, and faith. Are there prospects for establishing an innovative framework for grasping the nature of pain and suffering?

This Special Issue also warmly welcomes contributions related to the cognitive science of religion, particularly its evolutionary dimensions. Contributors are encouraged not to confine themselves solely to philosophical and theological theories but to remain open to scientific insights that prompt a reassessment of traditional theodical viewpoints.

Furthermore, the special issue will feature keynote lectures from conferences held in Toruń, Poland, and Rijeka, Croatia, focusing on the project's theme. For additional information about these conferences, please visit the website https://scire.umk.pl/en/.

This special issue is published as part of the international project "The Dynamic Theodicy Model: Understanding God, Evil, and Evolution," led by Dr. Piotr Roszak and Dr. Saša Horvat, with the support of the University of Oxford/John Templeton Foundation.

The preferred length of the paper is 25 000 characters (space included).
