Record information about punishment in the times before cards index

Abstract

Modern databases of criminals based on information technology. They are very efficient. They allow easily and quickly to find out information about judgments in criminal matters by the police, the public prosecutor’s Office, Court, etc. In an era when such technologies are not usable, data about criminal record were the desirable information too, because recidivists were also harshly punished. The article provides information on how to deal with this problem in the past, and more specifically in the antiquity and the middle ages. This publication refers to the methods of registration of crimes in different epochs preceding the most recent times (antiquity and middle ages).
