Abstract

The article presents a current research state of the Polish and Belarusian historiography of the life and activity of Raman Skirmunt in relation to the recently published book by Alexandr Smalianchuk, Раман Скирмунт (1868–1939). Жыццяпiс грамадзянiна краю (Minsk, 2018). Through the analysis of the monograph’s most important elements and original methods of its writing, the author sheds light on the figure of this outstanding politician of the landed gentry, who, in his love for his country, combined both the Polishness and Belarusness as two integral elements of his personality.

Roman Jurkowski, Uniwersytet Warmińsko-Mazurski

Roman Jurkowski, Prof. Dr. hab. at the Institute of History and International Relations of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (head of the Department of Eastern Europe), historian. His scientific interests focus on the history of the Polish landed gentry from the so-called “Taken Lands”, with particular emphasis on the history of Polish political thought in these areas and the activities of Poles in the parliamentary life of the Russian Empire.
