Focus and Scope
About the journal:
"Rocznik Toruński" is a scientific journal. It has been published since 1966. It is published by the Toruń Lovers Association. It is published every year thanks to a subsidy from the Municipality of Toruń and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. On its pages you can read, among others, articles on the history of Toruń, and you can also read reviews of books about our city. In each volume you will also find a bibliography of the city of Toruń for the previous calendar year. Printed edition is the primary version of the "Rocznik Toruński" journal.
The Program Board:
- ensures that the journal develops harmoniously and provides scientists with a platform for substantive discussion and presentation of research results
- indicates directions for further editorial work
- supervises publishing ethics
- supports the editorial team in key decisions related to the journal’s profile
The Editorial Team:
It is a group of researchers specializing in history and archaeology who work under the guidance of the editor-in-chief. They meet several times a year to discuss the most important issues related to the publication of the next volume of the journal. They have extensive knowledge and competence in the humanities, follow new publications, and have many years of experience in editorial work. The editorial team ensures that the authors comply with ethical principles and prepare texts in accordance with publishing instructions. The editor-in-chief is responsible for final publication decisions. Editors and reviewers help in making those decisions. The editor-in-chief is guided in his decisions by laws regarding plagiarism, defamation and copyright infringement. The entire editorial team keeps the submitted texts confidential. Rejected articles are archived by the editors, but may not be used in own research of the editorial team members or reviewers without the express written consent of the author.
Principles of publication ethics:
We use our best efforts to maintain the highest ethical standards and good manners in science, that are in force in publishing practice. We also strive to prevent any abuse and fraudulent conduct. The publishing policy adopted by the editorial team is to ensure a transparent publishing process.
ETHICAL PRINCIPLES APPLICABLE TO AUTHORS
- The decision on accepting the paper for printing depends only on the assessment of its scientific value, originality, and also on the relationship with thematic areas.
- Papers are published after the authors agree for the transfer of copyrights.
- The author must provide the original work, that may not constitute plagiarism in any part, or contain false or dishonest content.
- All fragments and statements of other authors contained in the text must be noted by means of a quote and a footnote.
- All information about the source of research financing should be included in the paper.
- The paper should contain comprehensive information on the contribution of individual authors to its creation (if there are several authors).
- The thesis should contain a bibliography of all materials used.
- No paper that has already been published in another journal can be submitted.
- If a similar material was published in another journal or presented at a conference, this should be indicated when submitting the text.
- The authors retain the right to present their work published in ”Rocznik Toruński” at any conferences and symposia.
- The author must avoid scientific dishonesty in the field of ghostwriting and guest authorship (honorary authorship).
- The thesis should contain thanks and confirmation of the third party's contribution.
- If the author finds errors in his/her work at the stage of preparation for printing, the author is obliged to inform the editorial team. Then the errors must be corrected or the text withdrawn.
EDITORIAL TEAM’S ETHICAL RULES
- The editorial team of “Rocznik Toruński” initially qualifies the material sent for publication and decides whether to send it for review or reject it.
- The paper must be evaluated only in terms of scientific value and originality. You must not be guided by your attitude towards race, nationality, religion, gender or beliefs.
- All texts sent for editing are subject to review.
- The editors care for the anonymity of reviewers and authors.
- The editorial team is obliged to follow established procedures in matters of copyright and plagiarism.
- The editorial team provides information about the submitted work only to the author, reviewers or editorial staff.
- The editorial team/publishers sign the relevant contract with the author after the decision to accept the work for printing is made.
- No one from the editorial team can use the work without the author's consent in the event of a decision not to publish it.
ETHICAL PRINCIPLES APPLICABLE TO REVIEWERS
- Reviewers should not be involved in the review process if there is a likelihood of conflict of interest.
- Reviewers must be objective when assessing the text.
- Reviewers should be able to justify their comments and their assessment of the paper.
- Reviewers should, if possible, indicate fragments of the work that were not in the footnotes and bibliography and inform the publisher about it.
- Reviewers should, if possible, indicate fragments of the work that are identical or similar to those previously published by the same author that are not indicated in the main text or footnote.
- Reviewers may not use the reviewed papers for their own purposes without the author's consent.
- Reviews are carried out confidentially.
ETHICAL PRINCIPLES IN THE PUBLICATION PROCESS
- The editorial team ensures that the entire process is carried out in accordance with accepted procedures.
- The editorial team is responsible for securing all materials submitted for publication at all stages, as well as for ensuring the confidentiality and security of personal data.
- The editorial team/publisher has the right to publish articles in the form of a full text in an electronic version (which is also referred to in the contract concluded with the author).
- At each stage of the publication the editorial team should report to the relevant institutions or organizations any attempts of violation of research integrity principles, research ethics and good practices.
Peer Review Process
Review process:
- Texts sent to the editor should be prepared in accordance with the publishing instructions.
- The editorial team reserves the right to pre-verify texts.
- Articles initially approved by the Editorial Team are addressed (anonymously) to external reviewers.
- After receiving positive reviews, the Editorial Team decides on printing the text in a specific volume of the Journal.
- The authors of all texts accepted for printing (articles, materials, messages, reviews, notes, etc.) sign a contract with the Towarzystwo Miłośników Torunia.
- The authors are informed about subsequent stages of the qualification procedure via e-mail (in the attachment they receive the content of the editorial review).
