The article opens with a discussion of the prospects of literature and literary studies in the 21st century. Its bulk is an attempt to classify attitudes of literary translators, which relies on age-old cultural tradition of myth. Several mythical figures are sketched and claimed to illustrate attitudes of translators as exemplified in selected translations of Henry James’s fiction into Polish.
