Focus and Scope

The purpose of Translation Journal  is to exchange thoughts among translation experts (both in theory and practice). Therefore, we would like practicing translators, translation teachers and translation scholars to share their knowledge and experience.

The following types of publications are accepted in our journal:

- papers on translation theory, practice and teaching;

- review papers presenting critical analysis and assessment of an academic publication, published in the same year as the planned volume, or in the two preceding years (e.g. for Volume 15/2020 – books published in 2018–2020);

- translations of papers on various issues in Translation Studies demonstrating most interesting and inspiring achievements in Translation Studies that have not yet been translated into Polish;

- varia, including book reviews, reports on conferences / translation workshops, information, and in memoriam.

We do not publish texts that do not belong to the aforementioned categories and in which the principles of ethics and scholarly integrity have not been observed as well as those which do not meet the criteria and guidelines of Translation Journal. We accept manuscripts for Translation Journal  on a continuous basis. Call for Papers is closed every year on April 30 or earlier (when an expected number of manuscripts has been submitted). Information about submission or closure is available in the News tab.

The editors of Translation Journal  do not charge for manuscript submission, editorial work or publication in the journal.

Authors who publish in Translation Journal agree to the terms of the license agreement (Agreement with the author of the manuscript / journal/).

Peer Review Process

The manuscripts submitted must belong to the thematic scope of the journal (see Purpose and scope of Translation Journal), be written in accordance with the principles of ethics and meet editorial requirements (see Guidelines for authors).

If the manuscript does not meet the above criteria or includes grave language or substantive errors, it will not be considered for reviews, and the author will be informed about it within 21 days since the date of confirmation of receipt.

To ensure the objective review process, the manuscripts submitted are subject to the double-blind review process by two independent reviewers (from outside an academic centre/another entity represented by the author / authors of the manuscript). Reviewers pay attention to academic quality standards, including the originality of research, cogency of argumentation, methodological adequacy, accuracy of interpretation and language style. One reviewer from outside the academic centre represented by the author / authors of the manuscript is requested to evaluate a review paper. On the basis of scores obtained, the editors decide to reject, accept or return the manuscript to the author for corrections and improvement. The author is notified of the decision within 60 days from the date of acceptance of the manuscript for review.

Open Access Policy

The journal offers access to the contents in the open access system on the principles of non-exclusive license Creative Commons (CC BY-ND 3.0).

The Editorial Board of Rocznik Przekładoznawczy annouces that submission and publication of any articles as well as the peer review process is free of charge.

Publication ethics

Regular standards of academic quality apply, which covers originality/novelty, accuracy of argumentation, accuracy of the review, or methodological adequacy and relevance. Relying on the opinions of reviewers, the editors have the final say in either to reject the paper, accept it with minor or major revisions and improvements, or accept it as it is. The author is duly notified of the decision.

ETHICS STATEMENT

The editors, authors and reviewers of the Translation Journal are required to observe and maintain high standards of scholarly integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EDITORS’

• to ensure confidentiality of information provided

• to identify and declare any possible conflicts of interest

• to act objectively, and respect equality in relation to all authors and manuscripts without any discrimination with regard to gender, religion, race, or ethnic origin

 RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE AUTHORS’

• to submit manuscripts which have not been published or accepted for publication elsewhere

• to confirm originality of a manuscript submitted (the Editorial Board of the Journal applies the anti-plagiarism policy, and when a plagiarism is detected all relevant institutions shall be informed)

• to present up-to-date, valid and reliable results in line with the principles of scholarly integrity (as data forgery is a serious offence against the latter)

• to provide relevant references and credit to the work of other authors that is cited in a manuscript submitted

• to provide, if a need arises and when requested by the editorial board, access to data collected in the research process following the publication

• to obtain permission in view of reproducing or copying any copyrighted material

• expressing consent to the terms of the licence agreement, including but not limited to the dissemination of the submitted text in an electronic version in the open access formula under the Creative Commons licence (CC BY - ND 3.0), e.g., via the digital platform of the NCU Publishing House and the NCU repository

UNETHICAL BEHAVIOUR

The Editorial Board of the Translation Journal implements anti-plagiarism procedures. All the identified and detected instances of plagiarism  will be revealed and exposed, including notifying relevant institutions.

Journal History

1. The beginnings of the Journal
   

   Maciej Pławski and Lech Zieliński were the initiators of the Journal. Their long-standing acquaintance has facilitated communication and added to efficiency of actions undertaken. The idea to publish a journal was a result of discussions that concentrated on taking strategic actions aiming at enhancing the role of translation at the NCU’s Faculty of Languages.
   From the very beginning, the initiators were intent on overcoming divisions and administrative procedures. The creation of the Translation Journal was only one of a variety of actions undertaken to analyse the role of translation at the NCU. Other activities encompassed establishing post-graduate studies for translators (in German and English) that have been managed jointly by the Chair of English Philology and the Chair of German Philology since 2007 as well as organising research conferences devoted to translation studies, specialist courses in translation or MA seminars on translation.

2. The structure of the Journal
   

   The specific idea concerning the Journal was suggested in 2005 with the publication of Volume I. The Journal is structurally divided into two parts: Theory and practice of translation and Translation teaching. The structure and division of articles have remained the same in all volumes published so far.

3. Changes in 2007
   

   In 2007 the editors from the Chair of German Philology were joined by representatives of the Chairs of English Philology, Romance Philology and the Institute of Slavonic Philology. A new rule was also introduced that consisted in two editors from two different departments participating in editing subsequent volumes. The Advisory Board, with seven members, was established to monitor the Journal’s research quality. The members of the Board are eminent scholars from Polish universities, and reviewing articles is one of their tasks.

4. Our plans for the future
   
   Most important plans for the years 2009-2010 include the following:
   • Building our website (2009),
   • Applying to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for points (2009)
   • Expanding the network of our regular authors to ca.100 persons (2009-2010)
   • Enlarging the Advisory Board so that major departments of foreign languages be represented by at least two persons (2009-2010).
