This particular paper is, in general, a deep analysis of the translation circumstances (either cultural, ethnic and/or religious) which the translator has to have in mind in the process of text interpretation and translation. The authors deem to confront theoretical and practical assumptions which lie at the foundation of film translations which are realized for the TV purposes. The topic in question is thoroughly analyzed from the perspective of both the translator and the target text receiver(s); hence the authors rest their knowledge on their solid theoretical knowledge as well as on their experience as translation practitioners. An all-toocrucial ingredient of this article is limitation of the translation spectrum investigated, namely the particular way in which film translation is realized for TV purposes- ‘voice over’. Voiceover – the most commonly employed translation method in Poland, remains obscure to translation theoreticians, in particular to those from the countries favoring dubbing and subtitles.References
