About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Andragogy Yearbook is an academic journal which supports academic discourse and records changes in the theory on and practice of adult education, with due attention to and respect for diverse points of view or research approaches and with questions which arise from both theoretical and empirical analyses of this field of science and social practice.
Andragogy Yearbook was established in 1994 as a publication of Akademickie Towarzystwo Andragogiczne [Andragogy Academic Society]. Since 2013 it has been published in cooperation with the Nicolaus Copernicus University [NCU] in Toruń on the NCU electronic journal platform. Behind the whole idea stood (until 2013) Prof. Józef Półturzycki, PhD, who, for many years, was also Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
The first volume of Andragogy Yearbook was printed out by Bielefeld University within the framework of cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung und Fernstudium [German Association for University Continuing and Distance Education], formerly known as AUE. Between 1995 and 1998 the yearbook was printed out by Wydawnictwo Adam Marszałek [Adam Marszałek Publishing House] in Toruń, then by Instytut Technologii i Eksploatacji [Institute for Sustainable Technologies – National Research Institute] in Radom. From the very beginning the substantive preparation of Rocznik Andragogiczny meant the synergy of efforts and resources available at the Faculty of Education at the University of Warsaw and the NCU. It was supported by the Polish Branch of Deutsche Volkshochschul-Verband [German Adult Education Association] in 1995 – 2006 and subsequently by Pawel Wlodkowic University College in Płock in 2007 – 2012.
Andragogy Yearbook is present in three journal databases:
- Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (CEJSH): www.cejsh.icm.edu.pl
- Index Copernicus International (ICI): www.indexcopernicus.com
- The European Reference Index for the Humanities and the Social Sciences (ERIH PLUS): https://dbh.nsd.uib.no/publiseringskanaler/erihplus/
According to the parametrical assessment conducted in 2022, Andragogy Yearbook received 70 points.
Andragogy Yearbook is divided into three parts consisting of:
I. Articles: original texts on the theory on and practice of adult education grouped according to topics set for a particular year;
II. Current issues: briefs on eminent andragogists’ anniversaries, scientific awards granted to people related to andragogy, obituaries, conference and seminar reports, and invitations to andragogy-related academic events.
III. Reviews: reviews of Polish and foreign publications on andragogy issued within the last two years.

3. In the case of recommendation to proceed with peer review, the manuscript is submitted to two independent reviewers not affiliated with the author’s institution. These reviewers prepare a written review for each manuscript.
4. Reviews are conducted with confidentiality, reliability, and adherence to ethical standards (either under double-blind review process or through a written declaration of no competing interests). Reviewers must not any knowledge regarding the manuscript prior to its publication.
5. Reviewers provide critical comments and either recommend the manuscript for publication or advise against it. Possible recommendations are:
- Accept manuscript for publication in its current form.
- Accept manuscript for publication after revision, without further review.
- Accept manuscript for publication after revision, with further review required.
- Reject manuscript for publication.
6. Should peer review result in two conflicting recommendations, the decision on publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Scientific Council of the journal.
7. In all cases, the final decision on publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Scientific Council.
8. When the review process is completed, authors are notified of the outcome. The list of reviewers collaborating with the journal is published on the journal’s website.

Principles of Publication Ethics
The Editors of the Andragogy Yearbook adhere to the principles of publication ethics outlined in: COPE's Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, www.publicationethics.org
PRINCIPLES OF PUBLICATION ETHICS
in the Andragogy Yearbook
The Editors of the Andragogy Yearbook are dedicated to upholding ethical standards in scholarly publications and taking all necessary steps to address negligence and misconduct in this regard.
I. Duties and responsibilities of the Editors:
1. Publication decisions
When making publication decisions, the Editors must obey legal regulations currently in force, including copyright regulations.
2. Non-discrimination
To prevent discrimination, the Editors adhere to the applicable laws of the Republic of Poland.
3. Confidentiality/ disclosure and competing interests
The editorial board members must not disclose any information on manuscripts submitted for publication, including the content of reviews, to third parties (i.e. individuals not involved in the publication process). The Editors do not reveal the identities of authors to reviewers, nor the identities of reviewers to authors. The Editors do not appoint as reviewers individuals who have direct reporting relationships with authors or any other direct personal relationships (provided that the Editors are aware of such connections).
The Editors may not, in their publications or speeches, cite, quote, or otherwise refer to the content of manuscripts that have not yet been published without the consent of the authors.
II. Duties and responsibilities of reviewers
1. Contribution to editorial decisions
Reviewers assist the Editors in making decisions on the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts for publication.
2. Timeliness
Reviewers must declare their ability to return reviews within the agreed time frame. If not possible, they should promptly inform the Editors.
3. Standards of objectivity
Peer reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments. Comments from reviewers should be constructive and content-related.
4. Confidentiality/ disclosure and competing interests
All manuscripts under review remain confidential. They may not be shared or discussed with anyone other than the editorial board members. Any doubts, criticisms, and polemical remarks should be formulated in the review. The content of the review is considered confidential. Information obtained during the peer review process may not be used for personal advantage.
5. Anonymity
All peer reviews are conducted anonymously, and the Editors do not disclose the identities of authors to reviewers.
6. Acknowledgement of sources
Reviewers should promptly inform the Editors of any suspected copyright infringement in the peer-reviewed manuscript and draw attention to omissions or errors in references.
III. Duties and responsibilities of authors
1. Proper acknowledgement of authorship/ disclosure of funding sources/ competing interests
Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the content of the paper. Other individuals who have participated in certain aspects of the paper should be listed in references as contributors, e.g. field research contractors.
Authors must disclose all sources of financial support for the conduct of their research, contributions from scientific and research institutions, associations, and other entities (affiliation and/or relevant references), as well as any significant competing interests that may affect the results and interpretation.
The Editors recognize that ghost-writing/guest authorship are manifestations of scientific misconduct, and any detected cases shall be exposed, including notifying relevant entities (authors’ employing institutions, scientific societies, associations of scientific editors, etc.). “Ghost-writing” occurs when an individual has made a significant contribution to the preparation of the paper without disclosing their involvement as a co-author or without acknowledging their role in the acknowledgements section of the paper. “Guest authorship” occurs when the contribution of an author is minimal or non-existent, but their name appears in the paper’s headline.
Authors shall submit statements aimed at preventing ghost-writing/guest authorship practices.
2. Data access and retention
Authors may be asked to provide raw data regarding the manuscript submitted for publication.
3. Multiple or concurrent publications
Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical behaviour and is unacceptable.
4. Fundamental errors in published works
If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own work, they should promptly notify the Editors. If the Editors learn from a third party that a published paper contains errors, they should take all necessary steps to ensure the appropriate correction.
5. Originality and plagiarism/ acknowledgement of sources
Authors submit entirely original works. They must disclose sources that have influenced the manuscript submitted for publication by citing and quoting. Authors should ensure the accurate identification of authors and/or excerpts from works cited in the manuscript. Information obtained privately must not be used without explicit permission from the source. Confidential information must not be used without permission from relevant authorities.
The Editors must document all instances of misconduct, especially breaches and infringement of ethical principles in science.
