Publishing ethics
Journal of Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing adheres to the highest ethical standards described by International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE: http://www.icmje.org/), Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE: http://publicationethics.org/) oraz International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE: http://nursingeditors.com/).
All of authors and reviewers should read and observe the guidelines of Ethics of Publication in "The Journal of Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing".
Recommendations for Authors
Originality of submitted works
- It is the responsibility of the authors to read the website's guidelines for authors and the rules for the qualification of articles for publication.
- Manuscripts submitted must be original (not previously published). Do not place the article, which is under review in other places (eg. of other magazines). The author submits a statement that the text submitted for publication is an original work which does not infringe upon the rights of third parties, has not been published anywhere and has been prepared independently.
- All borrowings, quotes, tables and comments used in the text should be marked with appropriate footnotes.
- The author should not submit the manuscript describing essentially the same research divided into lots and published in other journals. The exception is presenting in the work the new purpose and obtaining new results and conclusions.
- The authors of original research manuscripts should pay attention to the detailed presentation of the methodological part and to conduct an objective discussion to the extent possible to check the reliability of data as well as a similar study for comparative purposes.
- The author submits a statement that the article submitted for publication and all research has been carried out with respect for ethical principles and ethical standards described by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, the Committee on Publication Ethics and the International Academy of Nursing Editors.
- Editors obey the principles embodied in the Declaration of Helsinki and the Interdisciplinary Principles and Guidelines for the Use of Animals in Research, Testing and Education and it is expected that all research involving humans or animals must be approved by the local ethical committee. Information on obtaining consent should be included in the text.
- The author may be asked to provide unprocessed data/test results. They should be ready to allow access to such data. In addition, these data are retained by the author for one year from the date of publication.
- The author should immediately notify the Editors of any significant errors in his publication.
Plagiarism
- Plagiarism means copying another person’s work (or part thereof), including assigning itself the right to the authorship by hiding the origin of copied track.
- Before publication every artice is processed with antiplagiarism software (Similarity Check by Crossref).
- Authors are required to obtain written permission from the owner to publish the drawings, photographs, graphics, etc., of which they do not have copyright.
- The author is responsible for placing real and non-plagiarizing data in the article. In the event of errors, they are obliged to remove false data and correct errors.
Manipulation in footnotes (references)
- Manipulation in footnotes (references) occurs then, when the manuscript contains literature which is not in the references or contains references that are not related to the topic or are not important to the submitted work. Presenting literature and references in the manuscript with the goal of increasing the amount of citations of the journal or the author is unethical.
Conflict of interest
- All the authors should disclose in their manuscript information concerning conflict of interest (tangible, intangible). All sources of financial support for the manuscript/project should be disclosed.
Author's contribution
- All the authors of the manuscript should determine its own intellectual contribution in accordance with established criteria and approve the final version of the manuscript.
- Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the concept, implementation of research as well as to interpretation of published research results.
- The obligation to ensure that persons contributing to the creation of an article accept its final form lies with the Author submitting the text for publication.
- The editors counteract ghostwriting and guest authorship phenomena, which are a manifestation of scientific misconduct. With 'ghostwriting' we deal when someone made a significant contribution to the publication, but was not disclosed as one of the authors or his role was not mentioned in the acknowledgments included in the publication. Whereas 'guest authorship' exists when the participation of a given person is negligible or none, and their name is given as the author/co-author of the publication.
Acknowledgments
- Co-workers who do not meet the criteria for authorship, and contributed in any way to the creation of the manuscript should be listed in the acknowledgments.
Recommendations for Reviewers
- Reviewers prepare the assessment/review on a voluntary basis in accordance with the principles of peer-review. They should not take the manuscript, if they consider that the subject matter does not concern the development of their specialties or interests. It is expected that reviewers will produce an assessment/reviews within two weeks.
- All manuscripts received for evaluation/review must be treated as confidential documents. They cannot be shown or discussed with others without authorization from the Editor.
- Assessments should be conducted in an objective manner. They should always try to provide detailed and constructive feedback to help authors improve their manuscript.
- The journal introduced a model of reviewing, in which the author (s) and reviewers do not know their identity (ie. a “double-blind peer review process”). In case that this happens (knowledge of identity data eg. due to very limited scope of the research described) the reviewer must sign a declaration of no conflict of interests. For conflict of interest it is deemed to occur between the reviewer and the author of: a) direct personal relationships (kinship, legal relationships, conflict), b) professional reporting relationships, c) direct scientific cooperation in the past two years preceding the preparation of review.
- Verification of the text's originality - The Reviewer should also inform the Editor about the occurrence of violation of ethical standards by the author of the text, including any significant similarity, partial coverage of the reviewed work with any other published and known work or suspicion of plagiarism.
- The review must be done in writing and end at the explicit request to the approval of the article for publication or reject it.
- In case that a given article receives divergent reviews (one positive, the other negative), a third reviewer is appointed, whose review is conclusive.
Recommendations for Editors
- Editorial Board is responsible for deciding whether or not the given manuscript is housed in an area of interest of the magazine, and whether it has been prepared in accordance with the recommendations for authors and whether it should be published in JNNN. Editors may consult with other members of the editorial team, as well as the reviewers and authors, in order to make decisions about publication.
- If there is a need to document the credibility of sent the manuscript in terms of business ethics, editors have the right to obtain additional confirmation/document from the author – the consent of the individual Ethics Commission to carry out the project/study.
- In the correspondence, Editors will not disclose to anyone any information about the manuscript sent unless an exception is the author/s, reviewers, and in some justified cases, other members of the Editorial Board of JNNN.
- Manuscripts which were sent to the Editor and have not been published in JNNN cannot be used by the Editorial Board for the purposes of their own actions without the written permission of the author.
