Assessment of the Intensity of Nursing Care Related to Analgesic Therapy in Patients Hospitalized with Brain Aneurysm. Preliminary Findings

Background. Monitoring thepainof the patientand the use ofappropriateanalgesic therapysubstantiallyaffectthe functionalperformance statusof the patient.
Aim. The aim of this study was to determine whether the selected variables such as the occurrence of SAH, clinical classification of H&H and the method of treatment have an impact on the intensity of nursing care related to analgesic therapy in patients hospitalized with brain aneurysm.
Material and methods. The study groupenrolled42 patientshospitalized in theperiod from April2011 tothe end of March2012 inthe Neurosurgicalwardat the University HospitalNo. 2 inBydgoszczfor suspectedcerebral arteryaneurysm. Duringhospitalization, applied clinical assessmentusing the scaleH&Hand the assessmenttakes into accountthe intensity ofnursingcare andpain therapyusedwithFunctional CapacityScale(FCS).
Results. The intensity ofnursing carerelated toanalgesictherapyonadmission tothe branchis dependent on theoccurrence ofSAH (r=-0,85; p=0,000) and clinical assessment in the classification ofH&H (r=-0,68; p=0,000). There were nostatistically significantdependencebetween the intensity oftreatmentandnursing care.Bothin the era ofsurgeryas well asthe first day afterthe junction, the intensity ofnursing carerelated toanalgesictherapydepended on theoccurrence ofSAH, the methodof treatment and clinicalclassification ofH&H. There were nostaticallysignificant differencesbetween the intensityof nursing carerelated toanalgesictherapyandSAH, H&Hclassificationandtreatmentat dischargefrom the ward.
Conclusions. Subarachnoidhemorrhage(SAH) and classification ofH&H are the main factor determining theintensity ofnursing carerelated toanalgesictherapyon the day thepatient isadmitted to hospitaland in the individualdays ofhospitalization. (PNN 2013;2(1):27-32)
