Background. Cancer disease of nervous system is characterized by non-specific symptoms, variable ethiology and persistence. The side-effect in this illness may cause a decrease in quality of life.
Aim. Recognition and estimation of life quality of patients with cancer (neoplasm) disease of nervous system, who are treated by neurosurgical methods, and identification of factors determining this state.
Material and methods. Group of patients numbered 54 ailing with cancer (neoplasm) disease of nervous system diagnosed treated by neurosurgical methods. Evaluation material were gathered by standardized questionnaire WHOQOL – BREF, with metric system, invented to evaluate the quality of life. Above mentioned data was supplemented by the analysis of medical documentation. Gathered material were statistically developed and verified on the level of importance p=0,05.
Results. 38 people, which is 70,4%, evaluated their quality of life positively while 5 people, which is 9,3%, negatively. However, satisfaction from health were even on all three marks, 18 people (33,3%) each. From the physical point of view, 24 people (44,4%), presented positive opinions.
Conclusions. 1. Patients evaluate their quality of life and satisfaction of health fairly high. However they are more satisfied with their quality of life more than live their health. 2. The level of quality of live is influenced by the kind of cancer; the patients with brain cancer have higher quality of live and shows higher satisfaction with their health. (PNN 2013;2(4):140-148)
