The article presents the ethical views of Albert Schweitzer – a philosopher, theologian, musicologist, composer, and medical doctor, as well as a Nobel Peace Prize winner. The central category of his ethics, “reverence for life”, inspired Schweitzer’s thinking and acting. Schweitzer’s ethical proposal was an attempt to revive European culture through the ultimate extending of the scope of responsibility which was to unify, in a mystical way, all the creatures into the universe of life. Today, Albert Schweitzer’s thought can become a powerful inspiration for the contemporary educational practice.
