Abstract

The paper was written on the occasion of the ninetieth anniversary of Professor Zuzanna Topolińska’s birthday. The author presents the curriculum vitae of the scholar and her outstanding achievements in the Slavonic linguistics.

Zuzanna Topolińska (born 1931, in Warsaw) graduated in Philology (with a specialization in linguistics) in 1952 at the University of Łódź. In 1959 she obtained her PhD degree at Warsaw University and in 1964 she was awarded the title of habilitated doctor. In 1974 she became an associate professor and in 1980 a full professor at the Institute of Polish Language at the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the years 1954–1992, she successively worked in the dialectological, grammatical, and semantic centers of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1983 Professor Topolińska moved to Macedonia and worked as a visiting professor at the Department of Slavic Studies at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje. She was one of the organizers of the Research Center for Areal Linguistics (ICAL) at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts. She was in charge of the center since its foundation in 2000 until 2016. In ICAL she was the head of the scientific project “The place of the Macedonian language in the Slavic and Balcan linguistic world”. Professor Topolińska is the author of over 600 publications which include more than 20 books. She is Doctor Honoris Causa of the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University (1997) and the University of Wrocław (2016). In 2016 at the University of Warsaw her doctorate was officially restored after 57 years. She is a member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (1976), the Polish Academy of Sciences and Arts (1991) and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (1997).
