Turkish suffixes, Balkan languages, morphonological adaptationAbstract
The third part of the discussion concerns morphonological adaptation. Most Turkish suffixes appear in the Balkan languages in several forms, in complementary distribution. This is related to the vowel harmony and consonant harmony of Turkish. Consonant harmony stands in sharp contrast to the principles of consonant clustering in European languages. In this article, we show how individual Balkan languages cope with this issue.
