The Weight of Pioneering. The History of Historiography and the History of Ideas (and Science)

The article discusses the relations between the history of ideas and the history of science on the one hand and the history of historiography on the other hand. The author outlines the decades-long discussion on the best way to historicise both of the former subdisciplines. The goal which the historians of ideas and science tried to achieve was to simultaneously capture the cultural context while maintaining the narrative continuity of the development of socio-political concepts and scientific theories. The solutions to similar dilemmas had been found significantly faster in the history of historiography, which did not translate into an increase in its attractiveness among historians of ideas and science.
