The article shortly presents origins and core characteristics of public history in the United States of America and in Poland. It characterizes the specificity of public historians’ jobs and presents MA studies at Loyola University Chicago and at the University of Wrocław as examples of professional academic programs in public history. Last but not least, it raises the issue of mutual relations between academic and public history.
