The article shows the fate of the first woman in a responsible position in the foreign ministry of Poland during the formation of the Polish diplomatic service after the restoration of state independence in 1918. At that time, diplomacy was a purely male field of activity. However, Kazimiera Ilakovich proved that women could work effectively in the diplomatic service. She was fluent in several foreign languages, demonstrated creative approaches to solving complex problems. She was the first to use the tools of public diplomacy during her foreign trips, giving lectures on Poland and its outstanding representatives, especially Józef Piłsudski. She contributed to the introduction of diplomatic protocol in the Ministry of Military Affairs, where she served as the minister's personal secretary. Through her activities, the diplomat set an example of responsibility, professionalism and creativity for future generations of women diplomats.
