Abstract

The aim of the text is to analyze the memorial titled Précis d'un mémoire sur l'Électorat de Saxe (1775). The author, a French diplomat residing in Dresden, characterizes the international position and internal situation of the Electorate of Saxony on the eve of the 'Saxon diplomatic revolution': the abandonment of the traditional relationship with Austria in favor of an alliance with Prussia. He raises the question of the future of the Dresden court, pondering whether it could prove to be a desirable ally from the French point of view.

Jacek Kordel (ur. 1988 w Warszawie) –studia historyczne w Warszawie i Berlinie (2007–2012). Dysertacja doktorska poświęcona polityce zagranicznej Saksonii w drugiej połowie XVIII w. (2017, Wydział Historyczny UW; nagroda Prezesa Rady Ministrów RP i Polskiego Towarzystwa Badań nad wiekiem XVIII). Zainteresowania badawcze: historia nowożytnej dyplomacji, dzieje Świętego Cesarstwa Rzymskiego w XVIII w., opinie o Polsce w okresie oświecenia. Najważniejsze publikacje: Z Austrią czy z Prusami? Polityka zagraniczna Saksonii 1774–1778, Kraków 2018; „Królestwo anarchii”.
