Celem artykułu jest krytyczna ocena książki poświęconej życiu i karierze Margarete Bieber (1879–1978), wybitnej historyk i archeolog sztuki starożytnej, oraz zawierającej numizmatyczne studia kilku współczesnych autorów. Zasadniczą część tekstu stanowią uwagi o ikonografii monety rzymskiej, zwłaszcza monety imperialnej II i III stulecia, oraz o związkach między rzeźbą a monetami. Skupia się on na kwestiach metodologii i wartości poznawczej źródeł numizmatycznych.
