The article undertakes to analyze the psalmist’s profession included in Ps 16:2, with the main emphasis put on the interpretative scope of the Hebrew term טוֺבָה (“good,” “happiness,” “prosperity”) used in this line. Two compatible ways of understanding it are proposed, including the economic aspect as well as the personal one. Both of them relate to God. The former leads to viewing God as a benefactor, whereas the latter – as the utmost good.
What is also referenced in the context of this profession is the topic of human happiness. By adopting the second interpretative path (the personal aspect), one arrives at a general characteristic of a happy man, the source of whose happiness is God alone.
