Abstract

Does God know contingent futures? Recently a new theological explanation has appeared that seeks to answer this problem by denying its root: God does not know the future because it is open in a strong sense. Aquinas, for his part, also faced this problem and responded to it by having recourse to the present of divine eternity which, existing all simultaneously, embraces all time. Now, what are the theological motivations underlying each position? This paper focuses on the question of divine foreknowledge to exemplify the theological method of St. Thomas.
