This paper examines Jean-Luc Nancy’s interpretation of Hegel, focusing in particular on the category of an event. For Nancy, the closure of metaphysics means among other things the dislocation of the foundationalist of the being and to start thinking about the event as the surprise. The event is characterized by a structural unexpectedness because of its disturbing and surprising nature. That’s why being is in conflict with the present, with being’s substantial, founding essentiality.References
