Abstract

The article presents the results of research on the relationship between the philosophy of art by Hans-Georg Gadamer and the philosophy of dialogue. Play, symbol and festival are the three concepts of key importance to Gadamer's thought that Gadamer used in his ontology of works of art and that undergo analysis. Reinterpreted from the perspective of the philosophy of dialogue, the three categories reveal unique characteristics of Gadamer's hermeneutics: the striving to preserve the view of the other in dialogue; the role of ethics in interpersonal communication; the elitism of the dialogical relationship as well as a critique of the ideas of wholeness and totality. Thus, aesthetic experience appears as the pattern of the relationship between You and I.
