Literary traveland rose binges. The identity of sicily in the work of Vincenzo Consolo
Abstract
The writer Vincenzo Consolo, who recently died, stands as an example to represent the identity of an intellectual relationship with his origins, and specifically a novelist who moved to Milan continues to forge links with his native Sicily, an island mother, who always showed the essence of his literary works and publishing. His interest in history, combined with the richness of its literary lexicon, is a symptom of the obvious intention of revealing what lies at the roots of a story, that he explores with extreme rigor and passion. Through the writing of where the journey becomes obvious metaphor, especially if it is done in a land like Sicily, land of arrivals and invaders coming from everywhere, yet substantially it is a mix of people imbued with a unique sense of identity that results in the recognition in it by a Sicilian writer, in a land where instability is strongly marked. Consolo intends to act “under the big sun Verga”, but doing the lesson of Leonardo Sciascia and thus also addressing civil commitment and interest for the historical investigation.
