cultural evolution, empirical study, origin of language, evolution of languageAbstract
The evolution of language has recently become one of the main fields of interdisciplinary science. However, it is also possible to study it exclusively from a linguistic perspective, not only theoretically, but also in an empirical way. The present article aims at presenting the most promising research programs dedicated to the empirical study of the cultural evolution of language, which currently constitutes an essential complement to studies from other scientific perspectives.
