The mysterious rooster from “Od Nowa”

The graphic symbol (logo) of Toruń’s students’ club ‘Od Nowa’, in the form of a stylised rooster with the club’s name inscribed
in its tail, first appeared on invitations, entry cards and club programmes at the turn of the 1960s/70s. The ‘Od Nowa’ rooster is, however, not only a graphic symbol with over 50 years of tradition, but above all a witness to the continuity of cultural activity of many years of students of the Toruń University, especially at a time when student culture was the only significant, bold and creative alternative to the mass culture promoted, imposed and censored by the communist authorities. Who was the author of the ‘Od Nowa’ logo? There is no clear answer to this question.
