The paper’s aim is to consider to what extent the evaluation parameters of dubbing (Chaume 2007) can be the starting point for the assessment of the quality of voiceover . This particular issue has been largely neglected. The priorities under analysis are those dependent on the work of the translator, such as writing credible and realistic dialogues, with special attention being paid to registers in the target language, coherence between what is heard and what is seen and fidelity with regards to the source text, understood as fidelity to the content, form, function and source text effect. Extralinguistic factors are also discussed in the paper that fall beyond the control of the translator and result from working conditions. All the priorities are illustrated by various aspects that could be taken into account in quality assessment, e.g. terminology translation, register represented by expletives, and culture-bound expressions.
